Central Purpose of Job

The Rolling Mill Shift Supervisor provides the tools and resources necessary to foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement and employee development in order to protect shareholder investment and operational capacity. Continuous process of improvements plant wide to include: processes, cost efficiency, reduce waste and management of department. The Rolling Mill Shift Supervisor advocates sound maintenance business practices to support mill operational processes to produce a quality product within budget that meets or exceeds customer expectations and supports the business strategies and goals of the mill, division, CMCA and CMC.    

What You'll Do

  • Maintain a safety-first attitude.
  • Know at all times current condition of bar going on bed, know physicals, and their relation to speed and QTB. At all times know quality of product at merchant end when applicable (i.e. physical specs, straightness, cold shear lengths/cuts and stacker bundle quality)
  • Maintain and ensure that his crew is producing the best quality bar as possible at CMC Arizona 2.
  • Provide tools and training to develop his crew or new employees for advancement.
  • Adhere to CMC Steel AZ safety policies and procedures.
  • Work rotating shift which includes weekends and holidays.
  • Maintain a continuous focus on cost and ways to decrease cost.

Knowledge and Education Requirements

  • Minimum two years rolling mill experience in a hands-on environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to recall specifics, methods, and processes.
  • Comprehend and apply analyzed procedures.

Skill Requirements

  • Operate fork lifts and overhead cranes safely and fluently
  • Operate a computer fluently (outlook, excel, word, etc.)
  • Use of all measuring devices (tapes, micrometer, inside outside calipers, etc.)
  • Must be able to multi task and follow through with task and direction given as well as give direction to direct reports.
