CMC has been in operation for more than 100 years, starting as a one-location scrap metal recycling facility in Dallas, TX in 1915. Since then, we have grown into a leader in the industry, operating dozens of metal recycling facilities, fabrication facilities and construction related product locations, along with nine state-of-the-art mills.
CMC Steel Alabama, located in Birmingham, is one of six electric arc furnace (EAF) mini-mills, producing merchant bar long steel products including flats, angles, channels, rounds and squares. Merchant bar products have a variety of end-use applications in industries like construction, manufacturing, transportation and more!

Merchant bar?
CMC Steel Alabama is a merchant bar producing mini mill, meaning it takes and melts scrap metal and forms it into steel billets. Billets are then reheated and rolled into products like angles, channels, rounds, squares, and flats like these.
Merchant bar products go into everything from buildings and machinery, shelving, construction equipment, truck trailers and more!

We're Recyclers
Each year, our vertically integrated steelmaking process saves more than 19 billion pounds of scrap metal from landfills. That's enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool 11 times a day for an entire year!
