What You'll Do

  • Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner
  • Work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
  • Communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc)
  • Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of management and employees across the organization
  • Ability to establish strong partnerships with all levels of management
  • Ability to manage personnel, good communication, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, organization and the ability to think and act strategically
  • Able to communicate, verbally and written, with operators, supervisors, maintenance, suppliers, management, and plant support staff
  • Able to manage teams and come up with solutions for any problems that may arise
  • Act as a liaison between management and the crew
  • Assign daily work assignments to maximize shift operations Keep management abreast of disruptions or changes to output
  • Assist, support and/or advise department management and first line supervision with respect to proper reporting and investigation of incidents to include but not limited to near miss, property damage, first aid, OSHA recordable injuries.
  • Capacity to manage employees without having direct daily supervision
  • Communicates information proactively with team and manager, escalating employee concerns when appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks requiring attention to detail
  • Department Kronos time system management and department employee performance reviews

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 5 years melt shop experience and detailed knowledge of melt shop and casting operations
  • Ability to work with a budget for lowering cost (SAP)
  • Must be able to schedule work through work orders and/or delegation
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced, dynamic environment; strong sense of time management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, as well as demonstrating effective listening and an ability to quickly learn in a dynamic environment
  • Basic computer skills

Your Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
