About This Job
Nester / Drafter is responsible for creating and maintaining template drawings, generating optimized nesting layouts, supporting plasma cutting operations, maintaining material inventories, and ensuring accurate production documentation. This position serves as a critical link between engineering drawings, customer requirements, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
What You'll Do
- Create accurate template and component drawings utilizing RADAN software
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and engineering documents to develop production-ready drawings
- Review customer designs for manufacturability and identify potential production concerns before release
- Create optimized nesting layouts that maximize material utilization while minimizing scrap
- Generate burn sheets, machine files, and production documentation for plasma cutting operations
- Maintain accurate plate inventory logs and material consumption records
- Perform daily inventory reconciliation and month-end inventory updates
- Update actual material usage and plate weights within ERP systems
- Review completed burn sheets and confirm production activity within company systems
- Work directly with Production, Quality, Project Management, Scheduling, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams to ensure manufacturing requirements are met
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, inventory accuracy, material utilization, and manufacturing efficiency
- Maintain records and documentation in accordance with company’s Quality Management System requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
- Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and fabrication documents
- Strong mathematical aptitude and understanding of geometric relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work with CAD software in a manufacturing environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, production schedules, and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to collaborate across multiple departments and locations
- Ability to analyze production requirements and determine efficient material utilization strategies
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Must meet CMC attendance standards
- Minimum 2 years of drafting, nesting, CAD, manufacturing engineering, or related experience preferred
- Experience using CAD software such as RADAN, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SolidWorks, or similar software preferred
Your Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree, technical certification, or trade school coursework in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or related field preferred
