CMC provides an excellent opportunity to grow in your steelmaking career. The Melt Shop Shift Supervisor is responsible for the safety and development of their crew including 10+ direct reports. This role will ensure all liquid process equipment is functional, collaborating with maintenance and operations personnel to improve efficiency and utilization. This is a hands-on leadership position that works 12-hour rotating shifts alongside a team of highly skilled steelmakers. 

What You'll Do

  • Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner
  • Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, etc)
  • Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry
  • Work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
  • Communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc)
  • Responsible for controlling and replenishing the inventory of consumables needed on the operations floor
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and provide coaching, skills development, guidance and support to team members
  • Holds team members accountable for their behavior and performance using performance management and development planning to consistently improve performance
  • Manage annual reviews, coach, and counsel shop employees with regard to employee relations issues and development opportunities
  • Work rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays

What You'll Need

  • Strong computer skills required (good knowledge of Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
  • Ability to work rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays
  • Strong customer service skills and leadership skills including the ability to interact with personnel, build strong relationships at all levels and understand business imperatives
  • A minimum of 5 years melt shop experience and detailed knowledge of melt shop and casting operations

Your Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
