Why This Job

CMC is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Manager, Government Relations. This role will support the development, implementation and execution of CMC advocacy, communication, and policy engagement efforts.  The Manager will identify, monitor and analyze state and federal public policy issues and activities, as well as legislative initiatives, which will affect CMC’s business and markets in which CMC is participating.  The Manager will support engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will promote a business and policy environment that is more favorable to CMC’s growth objectives.  The position will report to the Vice President of Government Relations.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in the creation and execution of CMC’s government affairs strategy, including developing legislative and policy agenda to share with key levels of government
  • Partner with CMC leaders, industry or trade associations and other third-party consultants to help communicate and deliver on CMC’s strategy
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of external advisors and advocates
  • Research and analyze state and federal legislation, policy and regulatory developments that influence our industry (specifically trade, climate, environment and energy) to evaluate business impacts and potential opportunities
  • Interact with government officials, agencies and other regulatory bodies on any issues that may affect the company at the federal, state and local level
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including Commercial, Legal and Operations to monitor, analyze and help develop strategies around unfair trade practices impacting CMC’s business
  • Administer employee PAC, including developing candidate contribution recommendations and strengthening the PAC’s contribution strategy to advance business objectives at the state and local level

What You'll Need

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in government affairs or a related field with exposure to trade-related policies
  • Experience within a Manufacturing and Industrial company with knowledge of related government policies and regulations preferred
  • Ability to effectively interface with government officials and senior company leaders
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills and the ability to work accurately and meet timelines with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to synthesize complex issues while identifying their related business implications and the actions needed to advocate towards a recommended outcome

Your Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, policy, natural sciences or related field
