What You'll Do

Learn to maintain and repair production machinery, perform preventative maintenance, and assist experienced technicians
Observe, learn and understand a wide range of skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical personnel
Demonstrate these skills and processes as training progresses by producing results independently or on a team, to undertake tasks as instructed while increasing overall contribution to the department
Use a large array of hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and test equipment
Read and interpret condition reports, and/or repair orders. Communicate with necessary personnel for clarification of problems. May discuss preventative techniques to minimize future repairs
Entering and Closing Work Orders in SAP using computer and tablets (after training)
Attend CMC Maintenance Classes at Florida State College Jacksonville while remaining in good academic standing
Follow Job Rotation Schedule tailored to your department
Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by following safety rules and regulations at all times including proper wearing of company PPE
Demonstrate safe work practices and behaviors. Regularly inspect for, report, and correct unsafe or hazardous conditions. Actively participate in the site Safety Program
Understand all safety and environmental compliance standards, regulations and policies
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
Maintain communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals
Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials, including loaders, cranes, manlifts and forklift

What You'll Need

Basic personal computer and corporate standard software skills (MS Word, Excel) are required
Knowledge/experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management System is a plus
Normal work hours are days, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workload
Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights and weekends
Work on rotating shifts with some overtime required
Must manage time appropriately, meeting hard deadlines
Reliable transportation to and from the mill and school
Required to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding to access elevations, able to crouch for periods of time, push, pull, lift and turn while carrying tools, material and equipment in various parts of the facility
Exposure to heat, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, heights, confined spaces, poor lighting conditions, material, products and by-products associated with the manufacturing of steel
Must be a self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervision
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to follow instructions and accept feedback
Must be dedicated to learning the trade and willing to put in the extra time and effort to build knowledge and gain experience
Positive attitude and interest in a maintenance career

High School Diploma or GED required
