What You'll Do
- Prepare structural designs for non-prestressed, precast concrete structures, including drainage inlets, manholes, box culverts, pipe end walls/retaining walls, liquid-holding tanks, dry utility vaults, and underground detention systems.
- Oversee review and permitting processes as applicable to project requirements.
- Conduct feasibility analyses and ensure designs meet project specifications and stakeholder expectations.
- Prepare formal correspondence to justify or explain aspects of design, production, or product repair.
- Track project progress, compiling technical reports, specifications, and calculations for internal and external parties.
- Develop and maintain project databases; create secondary systems as needed.
- Apply engineering expertise to support production troubleshooting, quality control, and process improvements.
- Stay current on industry trends, design codes, and standards relevant to precast concrete structures.
What You'll Need
- Civil engineering experience with strong expertise in precast concrete design.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design codes, including state DOT standards, AASHTO LRFD, ACI 318-19, ACI 350-20, and relevant ASTM standards (C76, C478, C507, C857, A615/A706).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot production processes and ensure quality control.
- Project and team management skills, including organizing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with structural design criteria: LRFD bridge design, live load analysis, soil/structure interaction, flotation resistance, lifting considerations, embedded plates/anchor design, seismic considerations, serviceability, durability, and stability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build effective professional relationships and collaborate across teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management, and CAD tools.
- Civil engineering experience with strong expertise in precast concrete design.

Your Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an NSPE-accredited program, or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in VA, MD, WV, NC, SC, FL, and/or GA, with ability to obtain licensure in other operating states.
