What You'll Do
- Evaluate, select, and procure refractory materials for use in various steel mill applications, including furnaces, ladles, and tundishes
- Develop and implement a comprehensive refractory maintenance program to optimize lifespan and performance
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule and oversee refractory repairs and replacements
- Understand all safety and environmental compliance standards, regulations and policies
- Manage the procurement of raw materials required for steel production, such as iron ore, coal, limestone, and alloys
- Negotiate major contracts with suppliers, including costs and terms of supply, service and quality
- Stay abreast of industry and market trends for assigned sourcing projects
- Work closely with logistics teams to streamline the delivery and storage of raw materials
- Maintain inventory accuracy metrics and associated reports for management
- Minimize manufacturing costs by using time, materials, and equipment effectively Suggest ways to reduce costs and optimize efficiency
- Maintain CMC's quality standards, while utilizing all necessary safety measures, plant equipment, and other tools
- Develop and manage budgets for the department
- Identify opportunities, collaborate and implement changes to improve manufacturing processes and reduce cost
What You'll Need
- Minimum 2 years of experience in refractory and raw materials management within the steel industry
- Understanding of refractory materials, their properties, and applications
- Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations within the steel industry
- SAP experience strongly preferred
- Excellent negotiation and leadership skills
- Critical thinking, strong analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills and leadership skills including the ability to interact with personnel, build strong relationships at all levels and understand business imperatives
- Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak, and understand English language in verbal and written communication.
Your Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
